AFTER EXTRACTION CARE

  1. Keep gentle biting pressure on the gauze for 30 minutes.
    - If bleeding has not stopped, replace with new gauze for another 30 minutes.
    - If bleeding persists, contact our surgery on (02) 96233434.
    - If we are closed, attend your nearest hospital emergency department.

  2. To help the gums heal quickly, rest at home for 24 hours.

  3. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.

  4. Do not smoke or drink alcohol for one week - This will delay healing and may lead to painful condition known as Dry Socket.

  5. Do not rinse or spit for 24 hours.

  6. Avoid sucking through a straw, blowing your nose or sneezing with your mouth closed - If you had an upper tooth removed.

  7. Wait until the anaesthetic has worn off before you drink anything hot - Approximately 4 hours.

  8. Be careful not to bite your lip or cheek whilst numb.

  9. Do not take Aspirin (Disprin) for pain relief, as it may promote bleeding. Best pain relief is achieved with Ibuprofen (Nurofen) or Paracetamol (Panadol), taken before the anaesthetic wears off.

  10. Brush your teeth as usual but avoid cleaning the surgical area - It is a self healing wound.
